Wonderboom is a beautiful and tranquil suburb of Pretoria which lies at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountains. It has its own national airport for light aircratfs which makes it extremely convenient for visitors.
One of the most well know attractions in Wonderboom is the Wonderboom airport where you are able to go on a helicopter flip or light aircraft ride over the city with spectacular views. The Wonderboom Nature Reserve is another interesting outing for the whole family. It is a historic area which was used by the Voortrekkers as a resting ground. It is well known for the Wild Fig tree which has a trunk of 5.5m in diameter. There are also a few species of small buck and many species of beautiful birds in the area. The National Zoological Gardens is probably one of the best zoos in the world and a definite must see while visiting Wonderboom. There is a cable way with spectacular views of the zoo and many tours available throught the zoo and the aquirium, including camping facilities for those who want to enjoy a night tour. The sand-stone Union Building is nearby Wonderboom and has two wings to the building which is well known to represent the unity of the two cultures since the Anglo Boer War. It is not open to the public but is admired by many visitors from the gardens surrounding it.
