The National Zoological Gardens is a must-see for any tourist visiting Pretoria. The zoo's sprawling 80 hectares of enclosures and parkland are centrally located on the side of a hill with spectacular views across the city. Over the past 100 years the Pretoria Zoo has established itself as one of the world's best zoos, with most enclosures providing generous space to the animals.
The Pretoria Zoo has a cable way that gives a bird's eye view of the zoo grounds and also serves to transport you to the top of the hill, saving you time and energy for the busy day ahead. Weary legs will appreciate a ride on the Zoo Choo-Choo. Golf carts and children's push carts are also available for hire.
Small children will especially enjoy the petting zoo at the farmyard. Bird lovers will enjoy the walk-thru aviaries which are divided into 4 different habitats. The zoo also has an impressive aquarium.
The zoo has two restaurants, a cafeteria, a braai area and lots of grassy parkland to enjoy a picnic.
