The Geological Survey Museum of Pretoria

The Geological Survey Museum of Pretoria

The Council of Geoscience boasts a display of over 9000 rocks and minerals, out of a collection on record, of over 20 000. Collectors and rock and mineral enthusiasts will witness the most fascinating and varied specimens in this museum. From displays of semi-precious stones and fossils, to diagrams and multi-media visual aids depicting various meteorites, rock cycles, the solar system, mining, diamond cutting and jewellery making...there is no lack of information regarding mineralogy or geology. A spectacular section is devoted to precious and semi-precious stones, with reproductions of the worlds largest diamonds.

The museums visiting hours are from Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 to 17:00. There is an entrance fee at the museum and organised groups are most welcome. Conducted tours can also be arranged, on request.

The museum is located in Paul Kruger Street, between Visagie and Minnaar Street (adjoining the Natural History Museum)
