The Ideal Destination in the Heart of the Garden Route!

Situated on the banks of the Touw river and its placid lagoon, Wilderness Village has a romance of its own. The sideway shops and café's will charm you with their creative approach and warm hospitality.

Intimate restaurants cater to every taste, from the adventurous and seafood diners to the more traditional South African food lovers.

Enjoy the inspiring work of our local artists and crafters at our regular craft market and surrounding studios. Pay a visit to the Irma Art Studio for exclusive artwork on ceramics, as well as oils on canvas, with a typical South African identity.

The beaches and forest walks offer opportunities to birdwatchers and hikers, the hills and kloofs beckon the paraglider and mountain biker, the extensive waterways lure those who wish to canoe or sail.

Inland drives will underline the beauty of the mountain views, and short forests walks will allow you to investigate the wonders of this old forest. You may even come eye to eye with the elusive Knysna Loerie!

Take a trip on the renowned Outeniqua Choo-tjoe Steam Train which winds its way along the coast and past the lakes on a 67 km journey to Knysna.

From Dolphin's Point on the N2, you can view the world famous Kaaiman's Bridge or watch dolphins playing in the surf. From May, every year, the Southern Right Whales will stun you with their presence.

The historical background will take you back as far as the middle and late 19th century and the St. Aidan's Chapel, dating as far back as the 1900', still holds services on Sundays.

For the golf enthusiast many excellent courses have been developed along the coastline. The Malachite Country House is only 20 km away from the Fancourt Estate and it's four superb golf courses. One of them, The Links, hosted the President's Cup in 2003!

The Wilderness is a perfect location from where neighbouring towns like Knysna (45km), Plettenberg Bay (80km), Mossel Bay (70km) and George (15km) can be visited.
