Wilderness National Park

Wilderness is a vast area of wetland stretching eastward from the Touwsrivier to the Swartvlei estuary, encompassing five major vleis and covering over 10,000 ha. The rich diversity of birdlife in this area can be viewed either from the many well-marked hiking trails that cut through the dense forests, or by canoes which may be hired from the Eden Adventures. Excellent bird hides can be found at Langvlei and Rondevlei. Water-skiing is permitted at Island Lake and Swartvlei.

Although primarily known for it's rich diversity of aquatic birdlife, the region is also home to a large number of small mammals, including various moles, shrews, otters, badgers, mongoose, mice, and monkey.
