The Peoples Theatre

The Peoples Theatre
The Peoples Theatre, which is celebrating over 20 years of providing world class quality, fun filled and educational theatre to countless families throughout South Africa, is situated at the Johannesburg Theatre Complex, which was formally known as the Johannesburg Civic Theatre. The theatre is a purposely created Childrens Theatre and is South Africas flagship theatre for young people, staging over 8 productions per year. Experience and history has shown that children are inspired, enchanted and challenged by the power of theatre, where a story book comes to life on stage through elaborate sets, costumes, good sounds, lighting and professional actors. The Peoples Theatre believes that all theatre, whether it be for adults or children, has to enjoy the same high levels of production.

Research has shown that 80% of children who attend shows at the theatre on a school outing, would never normally be exposed to the theatre. So the theatres relationship with schools is of the utmost importance as theatre is an education in itself and their discounted prices make this opportunity accessible to all. The theatre strives to reach children from all areas, from the affluent private schools, to township and farm schools. Their range of productions caters for children from preschool to adults.

The Peoples Theatre is located on the Corner of Loveday and Hoofd Street, Johannesburg Theatre Complex, Braamfontein in Johannesburg.
