Windybrow Theatre

Windybrow Theatre
WIndybrow is situated in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is a well known theatre which is well governed. The theatre is a respected cultural institution and stages professional and artistic work which is of high quality.
Windybrow was built in 1896 by Theodore Reunert. He was one of the mining engineers in South Africa. Since being built as a family home, the building has been used for many other facilities such as a nurses home. In 1996, Windybrow was declared a national monument. The theatre has grown in leaps and bounds since and through the years has grown from strength to strength becoming a Cultural Institution by the Department of Arts and Culture, in 2005.

One of the great features of the theatre is to recognise the artistic value of exchange between African performing artists and institutions. Windybrow aims to establish lasting links with artists and these institutions and to host seminars, become accessible to productions and to develop programmes which are available to artists especially up and coming artists. The vision of the theatre is to a world renowned and respected Pan-African Cultural Institution.

The theatre offers so many exciting opportunities from children's theatre to playwright workshops and spoken word courses. There is so much to see and do and the theatre hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Be sure not to miss out.
