Simola Golf Course

Simola Golf Course

This 18-Hole championship course, is a Par 72, 6318 metre course with a difference. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Knysna, it would be hard not to get distracted by the views from this premier golfing destination. Simola Golf Course is the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the Garden Route, but it is definitely the most scenic of the 5 Nicklaus Signature courses in South Africa. It was officially opened by the Golden Bear himself in September 2005. The course has a parkland feel throughout, with two amphitheatre locations separated by a natural ridge. The first seven valley holes have those magnificent views of the Knysna River, while the 11 holes on the opposite side of the ridge have a sense of space due to the uninterrupted views of the surrounding area, which include the Knysna Heads, lagoon and mountains. The course offers challenging and rewarding golf as Jack Nicklaus himself believes that easy courses are fun occasionally, but he doesnt think that they stand the test of time to be considered great courses. In order to play a round, booking must be made 7 days before for visitors.

With the reputation of the course such as it is, it is only expected that it would have a clubhouse to match. The Simola Golf Clubhouse also offers spacious changing rooms, and a beautifully decorated lounge. The Simola Golf Clubhouse forms part of the recently opened Simola Hotel and Guests and members have access to hotel facilities such as their gourmet restaurant, indoor pool and Wellness Centre.
Simola also offers practice facilities such as a driving range, and chipping and putting greens. It also hires out clubs, drive carts. Other facilities on the estate include a ballroom and conference facilities, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a river club.
