SUN LION VILLA
Self Catering House Accommodation
in Camps Bay, Cape Town,
Western Cape, South Africa
Exceptional holiday home with panoramic view in Camps Bay.
Sun Lion Villa, with its original and inspired architecture, is a house built to maximize the appreciation of the landscape that surrounds it. Viewed from the terrace, a sweeping panorama encompasses the Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain, Lions Head and the Twelve Apostles. The deck, swimming pool and garden overlook the coastline and setting sun. In keeping with the style of the rest of the house, the swimming pool has no square edges or corners, and blends into the surrounding shape of the private garden and lawn. A perimeter wall insures both pool and garden are protected from the gazes of neighbours and passers-by, allowing the guest total privacy.
Ideally located, Sun Lion Villa is a short 2 minute drive from the beaches and only 5 minutes from the city, reachable via Kloof Neck, which separates Table Mountain and Lion's Head. Most holiday activities, whether sporting, culinary, or night life, are all located within a few minutes of the house.
There are two double bedrooms each with their own en-suite bathrooms, ideally sleeping two to four people. However, a fold-out futon couch in the lounge can function as an extra bed for children if necessary, stretching the capacity to six. Two sets of towels and bed linen per occupant are provided. There is a washing machine for your personal laundry. The bright and spacious semi-circular living room with pillars and a fireplace is the centre-piece onto which other multi-levelled rooms look, including an open space dining area and kitchen for socializing at mealtimes. Dining facilities are provided for at least six. The wooden terrace is also an inviting location suitable for dining; whether it is for a sunny breakfast or for candlelit dinners or barbeques under the stars.
Shopping
The closest supermarket for daily supplies is the Pick 'n Pay in Camps Bay. Descend the main Kloof Nek road until you reach the traffic lights by the sea, and it will be on your right. The center also has a money change bureau and pharmacy with a doctor.
The Victoria & Albert Waterfront is about 12km away and has a large variety of retail shops and restaurants.
Remember that you may claim VAT (14%) back for any purchases that you will be taking home with you valued over R250. These purchases can be made up of many smaller ones from many outlets. The VAT offices are in the Waterfront in the Clocktower (9h00 to 20h30).

Restaurants
Camps Bay has many excellent restaurants and wine bars.
The Codfather is one of the better seafood restaurants in Cape Town and also does sushi. It is situated in the street behind Pick 'n' Pay.
Nearby is
Dizzy's; a vibey bar and restaurant with live music after 9 at night.
Caprice or
Tuscany Beach are good for a sundowner or coffee on the sidewalk and have a nice wine bar for a drink in the evening.
Blues has a more European menu and a great view over Camps Bay beach.
The Bayside Café & Grill has excellent seafood and steaks. For lighter meals and breakfast, the
Sandbar at the end of Camps Bay beach is the best choice. Most of the restaurants in Camps Bay are superb, so don't worry if you cannot get into a specific one.
Wakami in Moullie Point on your way to the Waterfront has lovely views and is fantastic for long lunches with sushi, fusion food and seafood. One of the best in the Waterfront itself is
Baia Seafood Restaurant, which is guaranteed not to disappoint you.
For a truly unique African experience, an absolute must is
Moyo at
Spier Wine Farm near Stellenbosch for their dinner buffet. Reservations are essential. Try to get one of their tables perched up in one of the large trees. Make a day of it by going on the wine route and visiting the other attractions Spier has to offer first (see below).
Also near Stellenbosch are the wine farms of
Delaire (spectacular panoramic views and Boschendal which both offer fantastic picnic lunches outdoors as a part of your wine tour. Opposite
Delaire is
Tokara Retaurant and Wine Farm, for a more formal but very stylish sit down lunch or dinner from star chef Etienne Bonthuys. Reservations are essential.
For wine tour experiences closer to Cape Town visit the winefarms of Constantia such as
Groot Condstantia or
Buitenverwachting which also offer the outdoor picnics and wine tours. A more picturesque way of getting there form Camps Bay is to first drive westwards along the coast past Llundudno to Hout Bay and then up over Constantia Nek.
With Children
Childminders is a babysitting agency that provides well screened experienced childminders.
Dunes (on the road behind Hout Bay beach) is a relaxed pub / restaurant with a sandpit and outside play area for children; and a big screen TV for dad. Found almost anywhere you go in Cape Town is
The Spur Steakhouse - which is ideal for children and has play areas and very child-friendly staff. There is one in Hout Bay and at The Waterfront.
Simon's at Groot Constantia is also child friendly and does lovely lunches; and you can also walk the vineyard and do wine tasting on the estate.
Special places to go with Kids:
Two Oceans Aquarium at the Waterfront: 9h30 to 17h00.
World of Birds & Monkey Sanctuary in Hout Bay: 9h00 to 17h00.
Spier Wine Farm near Stellenbosch also has a
Cheetah Outreach Centre,
Eagle Encounters, a lake and picnic grounds and is a fantastic way to spend the better part of a day.
Solole Game Reserve near Noordhoek has a lovely coffee shop with the best hot chocolate in Cape Town, lawns for the children to run around on and wild buffalo; a newly imported baby rhino; and many buck that can be seen on a tractor ride through the tiny reserve.
Classic Day Trips
If you have never done it, then not to be missed is of course a trip around Cape Point and its Nature Reserve. It is a splendid drive / outing, with the most spectacular scenery South Africa has to offer along with a great diversity of flora and fauna unparalleled elsewhere in the world. The baboons are a particular favourite for kids, but beware, they are wild and can be viscious.
On your way to the Cape, why not pass by Boulders and visit the penguins in their natural habitat. On the way back you can take the west coast road which will give you the best views of the coast (left side of the road) and if timed right, is the side you will best see the last rays of the sunset as you return to Camps Bay via Chapman's Peak drive and Hout Bay.
Another "not to be missed" experience is a trip to the top of Table Mountain by Cable Car if you don't wish to hike (see below). Pick a day with little wind and cloud, as the mountain can often be covered by its famous tablecloth, which is spectacular to watch from below, but is a washout if you are on the mountain at the time.
Golfing
The following nine golf courses are within a half hour drive from Sun Lion Villa:
Bellville, Clovelly, Metropolitan, Milnerton, Mowbray, Rondebosch, Royal Cape, Steenberg and Westlake. A further nine clubs are reachable within the hour:
Atlantic Beach, Boschenmeer, Erinvale, Pearl Valley, Somerset West, Spier, Stellenbosch and Strand. There are four more golf courses within the Western Cape Province;
Arabella, Hermanus, Langebaan and Worcester, but those can only realistically be enjoyed as part of an entire day trip outing.
