Robberg Ridge, Plettenberg Bay

Robberg Ridge is a scenic residential area on the southern side of Plettenberg Bay, set among rolling hills with views towards the Indian Ocean and the rugged Robberg Peninsula. Its elevated position, quiet streets and proximity to beaches make it an attractive base for exploring one of the Garden Route’s most popular coastal destinations.

The name Robberg means ‘Seal Mountain’ in Afrikaans, referring to the Cape fur seals that have long inhabited the rocky shores around the peninsula. The ridge takes its name from the same dramatic landmark, which dominates the coastline south of Plettenberg Bay.

The nearby Robberg Nature Reserve is the area's major attraction. The peninsula is a National Heritage Site and offers spectacular hiking trails along cliffs, beaches and ancient rock formations. The circular Robberg Trail provides some of the best coastal scenery in the area, with opportunities to see seals, dolphins and seabirds. During winter and spring, southern right whales may also be spotted offshore.

Robberg has a remarkable human history. Archaeological evidence in caves on the peninsula indicates that people have occupied the area for thousands of years, while the coastline also preserves evidence of early maritime activity. The cliffs and caves provide an atmospheric reminder that this beautiful landscape has attracted people for generations.

Plettenberg Bay's beaches are easily reached from Robberg Ridge, including the broad sands of Robberg Beach and the sheltered Central Beach. The town itself offers restaurants, cafés, galleries and boat trips on the bay and Keurbooms River.

Robberg Ridge lies in the Garden Route region, surrounded by the forests, beaches and mountain landscapes that make this part of the Western Cape so popular. Its elevated setting also provides attractive views across the bay towards the Tsitsikamma mountains.

For travellers, Robberg Ridge offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful residential setting close to Plettenberg Bay's attractions and spectacular natural scenery.
