The month of July brings with it the annual Vodacom Durban July, the most
widely anticipated horse racing event in Africa, and a definite highlight of the
social calendar. This year's event takes place on Saturday July 2.

The competition attracts a multitude of oddly interesting outfits, made in almost every possible shape, size and colour .Each year brings with it something completely new and different.
A number of marquees scattered around the track set the scene for much eating, drinking and merriment. A competition for the best test is also an annual highlight, with large corporate companies setting up and inviting the who's who to attract attention to their tents .
The race itself sees a total prize amount of over R30 million being paid out. Betting for the event is operated by Gold Circle, opening a few days before the race, or one can bet at a tote, or on track at Greyville. Gold Circle also operates telephone betting and interactive betting. Parking is limited for several kilometres around the track, so it is advised to take a taxi to the course.
