Sun Valley

Sun Valley is a leafy residential suburb nestled between Noordhoek and Fish Hoek in a central position on the Cape Peninsula. Surrounded by mountains and close to both the Atlantic and False Bay coastlines, it has a relaxed, semi-rural character despite being within easy reach of Cape Town's main attractions.

The name Sun Valley is a straightforward reference to the area's sunny, sheltered position between the surrounding mountains. The suburb developed mainly during the latter half of the 20th century as residential growth spread across the southern peninsula, transforming former smallholdings and open land into a family-oriented neighbourhood.

One of Sun Valley's greatest attractions is its setting. The nearby Silvermine section of Table Mountain National Park provides extensive opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and nature photography. Trails climb through characteristic Cape fynbos and lead to viewpoints overlooking False Bay and the surrounding mountains.

Noordhoek is just a short distance away, with its long, open beach stretching beneath Chapman’s Peak. The coastline is particularly appealing for horse riding, walking and photography, while the surrounding wetlands provide habitat for a variety of bird species.

On the eastern side of the peninsula, Fish Hoek offers a more sheltered False Bay beach, with opportunities for swimming, kayaking and exploring the historic village. The nearby Clovelly and Kalk Bay areas add tidal pools, cafés, galleries and fishing heritage to the mix.

Sun Valley lies in the Cape Town region, in a particularly scenic part of the southern peninsula where mountains, fynbos and ocean meet. Its location also makes it a convenient starting point for trips towards Cape Point and the Atlantic villages of Kommetjie and Scarborough.

For travellers, Sun Valley is best appreciated as a base for exploring the surrounding landscape rather than as a destination filled with major attractions. Its peaceful suburban atmosphere, mountain setting and proximity to some of the Cape Peninsula's finest beaches and hiking routes make it an appealing place to stay or stop while discovering the southern Cape.
