Pollsmoor

Pollsmoor is a suburb in Cape Town’s southern region, situated near Tokai, Constantia and Steenberg. Best known as the location of the Pollsmoor Prison complex, the area is also surrounded by some of the Cape Peninsula’s most attractive natural landscapes, with mountain views, vineyards and greenbelts forming an important part of its character.

The suburb lies close to the historic Constantia Valley, South Africa’s oldest wine-producing region. Visitors can explore nearby wine estates such as Groot Constantia, Buitenverwachting and Steenberg, where centuries-old Cape Dutch architecture, wine tastings, restaurants and beautiful gardens showcase the heritage of the area. The nearby Tokai Forest and Table Mountain National Park offer opportunities for walking, mountain biking, picnicking and enjoying the indigenous fynbos landscape.

Pollsmoor’s location also provides easy access to the Cape Town southern suburbs, with attractions such as Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Silvermine Nature Reserve and the False Bay coastline within reach.

While the suburb is often associated with its correctional facility, Pollsmoor’s surroundings reveal a different side of the area — one shaped by nature, history, wine and the scenic beauty of Cape Town’s southern peninsula.
