Chapman's Peak

Chapman's Peak is one of the most spectacular coastal areas in the City of Cape Town, where towering sandstone cliffs plunge dramatically into the Atlantic Ocean between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. Dominated by the iconic peak that rises more than 590 metres above sea level, the area is best known for the world-famous Chapman's Peak Drive, regarded as one of the most scenic marine roads on the planet. The route's sweeping bends, dramatic viewpoints and breathtaking ocean panoramas make it a favourite with photographers, cyclists and road-trippers alike.

The surrounding landscape forms part of the Table Mountain National Park and offers excellent opportunities for outdoor adventure. Hiking trails lead to the summit of Chapman's Peak, rewarding walkers with magnificent views of Hout Bay, Noordhoek Beach, the Cape Peninsula and, on clear days, far across the Atlantic. Nearby Noordhoek Beach stretches for almost eight kilometres and is popular for horse riding, long beach walks and spectacular sunsets. Hout Bay's bustling harbour, seafood restaurants and boat trips to Duiker Island, home to a thriving Cape fur seal colony, are only minutes away.

Completed in 1922 after seven years of construction, Chapman's Peak Drive remains a remarkable feat of engineering. Today, the area continues to captivate visitors with its dramatic scenery, rich biodiversity and unforgettable coastal experiences, making it one of Cape Town's most iconic destinations.
