Somerbosch Wines

What do you get when you are halfway between Somerset and Stellenbosch? Die Fonteine (Fountains) farm and Somerbosch Wines. Dad Wally was brought up on the farm next door to Die Fonteine and knowing full well the quality and potential of the farms vineyards decided to buy it. Originally he provided grapes and wine for sale under other labels but in 1995 all of this changed. 1995 saw the birth of Somerbosch Wines directly from the vineyards of Die Fonteine. The farm is relaxed and intimate, which is what one would expect from a working farm that has been in the hands of the winemaking Roux family for more than half a century. Like most award winning farms in the Helderberg area (Stellenbosch region), Die Fonteine benefits from the cool Atlantic sea breeze and other terroir elements which develop the complex nature of Somerbosch wines. The branded premium label Somerbosch and the newer entry-level label, Poker Hill, have joined the ranks of other fine wines which are produced in the region and are both innovative and varied. Today the Labels are in demand both locally and in various European countries.

In the words of Marius, Japie & Wrensch, "Above all, we would like customers to have as much fun drinking our wines as we have making them!"

Somerbosch Wine has two different tasting options, the first is the standard option which allows visitors to taste any 6 wines from their winelist for a set fee of R20.00pp (2011) which is refundable if the visitor purchases 3 or more bottles of wine. The second option is wine tasting with a twist, Ice Cream and Wine. This option allows visitors to sample 4 red wines, including Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage, as well as the farms own home made red wine ice cream. Visitors to may now experience this for R40.00pp (2011). It is essential that book, should you wish to taste the Somerbosch wines, so that you will receive extra special attention upon arrival and during your time at Somerbosch Wines.
