The small beach holiday resorts of Melville Beach and Banana Beach are located just a few kilometres to the North of Port Shepstone. Bypassed by the newly built N2 highway, both Melville Beach and Banana Beach can now offer peace and tranquility, the traffic jams having vanished with the building of the new road. Banana Beach has a tidal pool, a lagoon and some excellent surfing. Add to this already inviting picture the profusion of wild banana trees and the abundant indigenous vegetation that attracts a variety of local birds, and Melville Beach takes on an added appeal.
