Head down the KZN South Coast for a Hibberdene holiday - a popular resort about 25kms north of Port Shepstone.
Hibberdene has a Blue Flag Status Beach netted for safe swimming, and scuba divers will enjoy diving on Hibberdene's 4km long reef, which starts near the railway bridge and continues to the old airport. Other South Coast watersports include surfing, water-skiing, boating on the Hibberdene lagoon, excellent ski boat fishing, and good rock and surf fishing, as the Hibberdene beaches are reputed to be the South Coast spot for shad fishing. Hibberdene is also famous for the South Coast Sardine Run, which starts in late June or July. Known as the 'greatest shoal on Earth', when the sardine run comes to town, so do the tourists, sharks, dolphins, seals and flocks of seabirds all of which pillage the millions of silver fish.
Unforgettable family fun can be had at Hibberdene Super Tube on the beachfront, or for something less hectic, play putt-putt at the famous Hibberdene beachfront Jolly Roger Restaurant.

South Coast Trip - Hibberdene Open Review
For a change we decided to skip the KZN North Coast and head for the KZN South Coast.
Finding accommodation on the South Coast was easy because there is loads of it.
We rented some very nice self catering accommodation in Hibberdene, on the beachfront, and at a very reasonable rate.
Although South Coast accommodation is sometimes a little suspect, Catalina Bay is a complex of 12 units with a lovely swimming pool and like much of the other beachfront accommodation in Hibberdene, the complex is pretty safe and only a short stroll to the main Hibberdene blue flag swimming beach.
Our Hibberdene holiday flat was only 2 minutes away from the supermarket, hardware store, laundry, pharmacy and butchery - just perfect (You HAVE to try the Russian cheese-cracker sausages at Frey's butchery)
We rented Catalina 1 an upstairs, 3 bedroom flat which accommodated 6 people very comfortably. The kitchen was very well equipped and we had a great balcony overlooking the ocean.
We found that the South Coast beaches are generally much bigger than those on the North Coast and were far better for rock and surf fishing.
Our Hibberdene accommodation was also only a four minute walk from the famous "Jolly Roger Pub" which is situated on the main swimming beach - The food there was great, the beer even greater and the putt-putt much fun. You run a great show Heather!
South Coast golf courses like Selborne Golf Club, Umdoni Golf Club and Port Shepstone Country Club are all within a 20 minute drive of Hibberdene.
We know that Margate, Ramsgate and a few other major towns are more popular but Hibberdene has a different vibe and we will be sure to visit again.......no doubt, beachfront accommodation in Hibberdene will again be our choice of holiday.
The KZN South Coast used to be one of the most popular holiday destinations in South Africa, but we saw that this has clearly faded over the years and we look forward to a come-back.
The South Coast is definitely in need of a little "tidying up" before it becomes favourite above the KZN North Coast
Thanks Hibberdene, you treated us well and we'll be back.
