Clearwaters Cove is a peaceful rural locality near Haenertsburg, set among the misty mountains, forests and rolling grasslands of Limpopo’s Magoebaskloof highlands. With its cool climate and secluded setting, it offers a refreshing change from the warmer Lowveld and is well suited to travellers seeking nature, quiet and outdoor adventure.
The nearby town of Haenertsburg was established in the late nineteenth century and takes its name from Carl Friedrich Haenert, a German immigrant and pioneer who farmed in the area. Gold discoveries in the surrounding mountains during the 1880s brought prospectors and helped establish the settlement, although the gold rush was relatively short-lived.
Today, the landscape is the main attraction. The Magoebaskloof area is renowned for indigenous forests, mountain streams, waterfalls and spectacular viewpoints. Debegeni Falls is a popular excursion, while the surrounding forests provide opportunities for hiking, birdwatching and photography. The area is also known for trout fishing, with cool mountain waters and dams attracting anglers.
Clearwaters Cove is particularly appealing as a base for exploring this highland countryside at a leisurely pace. The roads around Haenertsburg wind through plantations, orchards and forested valleys, making even a simple drive a scenic experience. Local farm stalls and small eateries provide opportunities to sample produce from the fertile mountain region.
Although the landscape feels far removed from the wildlife-rich plains of the Lowveld, the locality falls within the Kruger National Park & Mopani Region, placing it within a broader tourism landscape that includes both mountain and bushveld environments.
For visitors, Clearwaters Cove is less about formal attractions than tranquillity and scenery. Cool mornings, misty hills, forest walks and the chance to slow down make it an appealing retreat in one of Limpopo’s prettiest corners.
