Amanda is a small rural settlement near Hoedspruit, surrounded by the warm bushveld, mountain ranges and wildlife-rich country that make this part of Limpopo so distinctive. The settlement lies close to Hoedspruit, an important gateway to the Kruger National Park and the private reserves of the Greater Kruger. Nearby Hoedspruit, however, has a memorable local tradition: its name means “Hat Creek”, supposedly recalling an incident in 1844 when pioneer farmer Dawid Johannes Joubert lost his hat in a flooded stream.
