The new Bo-Kaap Market, perched on the vibrant corner of Yusuf Drive and Pentz Street in historic Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, has rapidly become one of the neighbourhood’s most compelling cultural additions. Officially opened in mid-February 2026 after soft trading since late 2025, this open-air market celebrates the rich tapestry of Cape Malay heritage with stalls offering authentic local cuisine, artisanal crafts, fresh produce and colourful textiles. Designed as a community-centred space, it’s a place where the stories and flavours of Bo-Kaap come alive against the backdrop of its iconic brightly painted houses, inviting both residents and visitors to linger, explore and engage with local entrepreneurs.
Operating primarily on weekends from about 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, the market provides a welcoming hub for small-scale makers and makers to showcase their wares in a setting that feels both relaxed and deeply rooted in place. Beyond shopping, it’s a sensory experience: drifting aromas of traditional Cape Malay dishes mingle with the laughter of neighbours and the rhythmic sounds of live performances, making it an essential stop on any cultural tour of Cape Town.
