Old Mutual Om die Dam Ultra Marathon

With over 7000 participants from around the country, the Old Mutual Om die Dam Ultra Marathon is regarded as the largest inland ultra-marathon in South Africa. Its name, Om die Dam is Afrikaans and is directly translated to "around the dam" - which is relevant to the event, because the marathon is run around the Hartebeespoort Dam in the North West Province.

The dam itself is a scenic destination and it surrounded by the majestic Magaliesberg Mountain Range. The race not only has the advantage of being held in such a beautiful setting, but also has a family appeal and is consistently voted as one of the top races of the year.

Om die Dam is a beautiful, but difficult race and has shown tremendous growth throughout the years, growing from only 1950 athletes in 1991 to over 7000 participants now.

If you are up for an extremely challenging run with lots of steep hills, then this is the race for you! One of the hills in the final stretches can bring even the most skilled runners to a walk. Remember to take water with you as this event in middle of the hot North West Province summer.

The race offers a 50km Ultra Marathon, a 21km Half Marathon, a 10km run and a 5km run.

The 26th consecutive Om die Dam Ultra Marathon will be run on Saturday, 12 March 2015.
