Hosted in the picturesque sister towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West, the olive festival is the largest of its kind in South Africa. It is a celebration of olives, food, wine and art. The festival which should be held on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of May 2011 is set to hold its own as one of the best food festivals in the Western Cape. Although the festival revolves around on the olive, the offers always include a traditional South African food village with a variety of South African delicacies including the devine olives, wine, cheese, pickles, jams and bread. There are also local art exhibitions, live entertainment, and wine tasting from the many superb vineyards in the area.
The festival has a specially designed route map that includes over 23 stops which ensures visitors have plenty of opportunity to learn the many secrets of this delectable delicacy. The festival has also made sure that the kids are entertained by providing a designated play area.
