Seal Island - Mossel Bay

Seal Island
Seal Island is a nature reserve which falls under the Western Cape Nature Conservation Board and the island itself is not open to tourists. It is approximately 6km from the shoreline and there are boat tours that take a scenic trip for visitors. One of the main attractions is the 75 000 seals, hence the name Seal Island, that inhabit the island. As the number of seals has increased over the years so has the number of great white sharks which has probably become more popular than the seals. Also on the island are other sea birds including the African penguins. Great efforts have been made to keep these penguins safe and in their breeding pairs.
