Wilgepark Accommodation

Wilgepark is a residential area of Harrismith (iNtabazwe), set beneath the imposing slopes of Platberg in the eastern Free State. Although primarily a local neighbourhood, its position places visitors within easy reach of mountain scenery, historic Harrismith and the wide-open landscapes that make this part of the province so distinctive.

Harrismith was established in 1849 and named after Sir Harry Smith, the British Governor of the Cape Colony. The town developed as an important stop on the route between the interior and Natal, while the surrounding agricultural district became known for cattle, sheep and crop farming. Wilgepark forms part of the established urban fabric that grew around this history.

Platberg is the area's standout natural feature and offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching and photography.
