Strandfontein, Cape Town

Strandfontein is a coastal suburb along Cape Town’s False Bay coastline, located south of Mitchells Plain and east of Muizenberg. Known for its long sandy beach, ocean views and relaxed seaside character, it offers visitors a more tranquil coastal experience while still being within reach of the city’s southern attractions.

The suburb’s development formed part of Cape Town’s expanding residential areas during the second half of the 20th century. Today, Strandfontein is best known for its beachfront, where locals and visitors enjoy swimming, fishing, walking and family picnics beside the calm waters of False Bay. The shoreline also provides beautiful views across the bay towards the Hottentots Holland Mountains and the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

Nature lovers will appreciate the nearby False Bay coastline, an important marine environment where seabirds, dolphins and seasonal southern right whales can often be spotted. The Strandfontein Birding Area, located around the coastal wetlands, is a notable destination for birdwatchers, attracting a wide variety of waterbirds.

With its combination of beachside charm, natural beauty and community atmosphere, Strandfontein provides a peaceful coastal escape in Cape Town’s southern suburbs.
