Hawston
Hawston is a coastal village on the shores of Walker Bay, just east of Hermanus, where a long sandy beach meets rolling hills and the dramatic mountains of the southern Overberg. With its strong community character and beautiful seaside setting, it offers a more relaxed alternative to the better-known attractions of Hermanus.
The village was named after Sir John Hawston, a British colonial official and former Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape Colony. The settlement grew during the 19th century and developed a strong connection with fishing and agriculture, traditions that remain part of its character today.
Hawston Beach is the village's main natural attraction, providing a broad stretch of sand ideal for walking, fishing and enjoying views across Walker Bay.
