Namakwa Festival

Namakwa Festival

Approximately 500 kilometres north of Cape Town and almost 120 kilometres south of the Namibian border on the N14 you will find the town of diamonds and copper, Springbok. Springbok is set in a narrow valley bisecting the granite domes of the Klein Koperberge (small copper mountains) and is known as the "Heart of Namakwaland"

Once a year the town holds a festival which celebrates the indigenous culture of the people of Namakwa, The festival includes shows with snakes and birds, arts and crafts exhibitions, sport races, tribal dances, storytelling, theatre and dance performances, as well as a street carnival. The crowning of Miss and Mister Namakwa festival, where local beauties strut their stuff to earn the honour and bragging rights of being named the loveliest of lovelies in the region for the next year. The Namakwa Festival is a highlight on the Northern Cape cultural calendar and it should be on yours as well.
