NDFT Daisy Marathon

NDFT Daisy Marathon

The idea of the Namaqualand Diamondfuntrust (NDFT) daisy Marathon was originally conceived in 1982 by the former General Manager of the Okiep Copper Company (OCC) and an employee, Mr Danny Gadd-Claxton. The concept was an annual event which would boost sports development in the area with a special focus on athletics, and it has been running at the beginning of Spring, time when flowers started to bloom in Namaqualand, ever since. This year, 2011, will see the NDFT Daisy Half Marathon taking place over the beautiful peak blooming flower season on 3 September at 07:00 around the breathtaking wide open spaces of Namaqualand. The races include a 21.1 kilometre race, a 10 kilometre race and a 5 kilometre Spar fun race. The slogan for the marathon is "A healthy body hosts a healthy mind."

The NDFT Daisy Marathon is hosted in the town of diamonds and copper, Springbok, which lies approximately 500 kilometres north of Cape Town and almost 120 kilometres south of the Namibian border on the N14.
