This museum is situated on the beach near Gansbaai. The Strandveld Museum is unique and privately owned. It is close to Dyer Island which is popular amongst local and international tourists for spectacular Great White Shark watching. This museum in Gansbaai used to be the home of one of the headman on Dyer Island and there is still some original furniture in the museum that belonged to the last headman.

In 1852, the ship, The Birkenhead went down and this museum boasts the largest collection of its relics. Come take a trip through time with the owners Jan and SD Fourie who love to share the stories and history of this area. Their exciting stories will keep you captivated.
This is a visit not to be missed when you are in the Gansbaai/Kleinbaai area. Come and enjoy an evening at the museum with a three course meal and enjoyable stories and song with the owners. It's the perfect way to end any day.
