Etienne Rousseau Theatre

Along with the Sasolburg Public Library, the Etienne Rousseau Theatre is an excellent example of contemporary architecture in the town of Sasolburg and was built in 1975.
The project was launched by Sasol at a cost of R1.1 million as a gift to the people of Salsolburg and donated R750 000 to its building costs. This beautiful building now stands in the heart of the town and its name a permanent reminder of the founding Managing Director of Sasol, Etienne Rousseau.

The Theatre was built to seat 456 patrons and has an orchestra pit large enough to accommodate a full symphony orchestra. This state of the art Theatre plays host to Afrikaans theatrical productions, as well as other performances. The list of performances includes, choral music, jazz festivals, musicals, plays and kids theatre which run throughout the year as well as art exhibitions and functions.

10 years after the theatres opening in Sasolburg, Sasol donated a twin building, the Johannes Stegmann Theatre to the town of Secunda in 1985.
