Braeside is a very special place. Built in 1901, this Cape Edwardian treasure is a haven of tranquillity. Situated away from the main road, Braeside Guest House enjoys sweeping views across a large and well maintained garden that looks onto the Marloth Mountain Nature Reserve and the Langeberg Mountains.
From the moment you arrive, you will be taken in by the warmth and hospitality of the surroundings and the owners, Iain and Leon. Braeside has been fully refurbished and awarded a 4-star grading by the SA Tourism Council as well as a Superior Accommodation grading by the AA.
Each of the 5 individually styled en-suite bedrooms features a private garden terrace and most offer views of the mountains. The others overlook the pool area.
All rooms have satellite television, a safe, bar fridge, tea/coffee facilities, fresh flowers and fruit, hair drier and toiletries supplied by Alcare Aloe products containing AloeVera. Some are air-conditioned and the others have ceiling fans. The en-suite bathrooms have either a shower or bath or both. Beds are 3/4 or queen size with non-allergenic mattresses, down duvets, quality linen and towels, and a choice of pillows.
Braeside is a convenient stop-over for travellers en route to or from the Garden Route.
Swellendam is the 3rd oldest town in South Africa and has an interesting history of its own and would certainly justify a 2 or 3 night stay.
Swellendam boasts many historic building including the
Drostdy Museum and Moeder Kerk, all within easy walking distance of Braeside. There is a 9-hole golf course for golfing enthusiasts and for hikers and mountain climbers there are many interesting trails in the
Marloth Nature Reserve and Langeberg Mountains.
There are many other attractions close by including the
Robertson's wine routes. A guided tour can be arranged to any of these attractions.
Our dining facilities are open for sumptuous breakfasts. A full continental breakfast is provided together with an English breakfast cooked freshly to order. During winter months you can enjoy your meal in the cosy dining room warmed by a lovely log fire. In summer, breakfast is served on the covered verandah with its beautiful views over the garden and the mountains. Dinner is available by prior arrangements and features many traditional local specialities. Alternatively, there are many good restaurants in Swellendam for you to enjoy and most of these are within walking distance of Braeside.
After a day's sightseeing relax and unwind around the pool area or in the tranquil garden and reminisce on the day or read a book. Enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer on the terrace or around the pool.
