Strandfontein is a small village on the sea shore. Standfontein literally means, "fountain on the beach" where the San and Khoisan used to come down and get fresh water from the fountain. This coastal village is close to the Olifants River mouth and is about 345km from Cape Town City Centre.
Strandfontein has beautiful unspoilt stretches of white sandy beaches. It also has some popular fishing spots and a tidal pool for swimming which is safe for the whole family. Bird Island Nature Reserve is nearby Strandfontein for the avid bird lover and during the wild flower season, late July to September, you can hike through the beaches which are covered with a spectacular array of colourful wild flowers. Strandfontein also has one of the most attractive and popular whale watching sites. For the adrenalin junkies, there are 4x4 dune trails.
Strandfontein has a mediterranean climate with hot & dry summer months and cold & wet winters.
