Rooiberg is a small historic mining settlement in Limpopo, surrounded by rugged hills and the characteristic bushveld scenery of the northern Waterberg. The name Rooiberg means “red mountain” in Afrikaans, a reference to the reddish colour of the hills and exposed rock around the settlement. The Rooiberg Tin Field was developed during the twentieth century and remained an important source of tin for many decades, helping to shape the community and its infrastructure.
