Pacaltsdorp

Pacaltsdorp is a historic suburb on the southern edge of George, where rich cultural heritage and a strong sense of community add depth to any Garden Route journey. Established in the early 19th century around the work of German missionary Charles Pacalt, the settlement grew into one of the oldest mission stations in the region and remains an important part of George’s history.

A highlight of the suburb is the historic Pacaltsdorp Church, completed in 1825 and recognised as one of South Africa’s oldest mission churches. Its beautifully preserved architecture and historical significance make it well worth a visit for those interested in the region’s past.

Pacaltsdorp also enjoys easy access to George’s many attractions. The nearby George Museum explores the town’s timber heritage, while the Garden Route Botanical Garden offers peaceful walking trails and displays of indigenous fynbos. The magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and nearby beaches such as Victoria Bay are only a short drive away.

Blending fascinating history with convenient access to the natural beauty of the Garden Route, Pacaltsdorp offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the cultural foundations of the George area.
