Okahandja is a lively historic town north of Windhoek, set among rolling hills and dry woodland on the central Namibian plateau. The name Okahandja is derived from Otjiherero and is generally understood to mean ‘the place where two rivers meet’. The town’s surrounding landscape also offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing and scenic drives. Nearby game farms and reserves support species such as giraffe, kudu, zebra and antelope, while the hills around Okahandja provide attractive views across the central highlands.

Okahandja lies in the Otjozondjupa Region, an area characterised by rugged mountains, open savannah and dry river valleys. Its location makes it a natural crossroads between Windhoek, the Waterberg and northern Namibia.
