Koringberg
Koringberg is a small, peaceful village set among wheat fields and rolling hills in the Swartland, offering a taste of rural Western Cape life away from the busier coastal towns. Its quiet streets, historic buildings and surrounding farmland make it a pleasant stop for travellers exploring the inland side of the Cape West Coast.
The name Koringberg is Afrikaans for ‘Wheat Mountain’, a fitting description of the distinctive hill that rises above the village and the extensive wheat-growing country surrounding it. The settlement was originally known as Warren Camp, but was renamed Koringberg in 1927, reflecting its close association with the local wheat industry.
The village developed in the early 20th century as an agricultural and railway community. The railway provided an important link for transporting wheat and other farm produce, while the surrounding fertile plains supported a thriving grain-farming economy. Today, the railway heritage remains part of the area's story, although Koringberg's appeal lies primarily in its rural character and scenery.
