Delareyville is a small town which named after the famous General Koos De la Rey and was founded in 1913 (after the Anglo-Boer War). It is situated in the north western corner of the maize triangle, 96 km from Lichtenburg, 82 km from Vryburg and 114 km from Wolmaransstad. The town is the centre of a rich and progressive farming community and the salt pans, that can be found all over the district, make a major contribution to the salt production of South Africa.

Some of the attraction in the area include the Barberspan Nature Reservewhich is approximately 15 km from town. The dam is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and covers an area of approximately 2,000 ha. It is considered a fishing, boating and birding paradise. The Rooiwal monument is 25 kilometres out of town on the Ottosdal road and pays tribute to the burghers who fought and died during the Anglo-Boer War. The Boschbult memorial is approximately 30 kilometres out of town on the Ottosdal road and there is a monument erected to commemorate the Battle of Boschbult. The Battle of Roodewal is commemorated at a community grave for Boer soldiers which also holds the grave of Commander FJ Potgieter. Roodewal is about 10km out of Delareyville. Turn left on the Migdol Road, left at a T-junction and left again. The turn off to the monument is about 1 km on the left. Strydom Square is adjacent to the municipal offices and comprises of an effigy of General De la Rey and a Heroes Acre. The Dutch Reformed Church, the Mother Church of Delareyville, is situated in Delarey Street and was proclaimed a national monument in 1994. In summer, the pink-coloured salt pan attracts thousands of flamingoes - surely one of the most awe-inspiring attractions in the province.
