Vingerklip, also known as Finger of Stone, is a remarkable natural rock formation located in the Kunene Region of Namibia, approximately 90 kilometers west of the town of Outjo and near the Ugab River Valley. This towering monolith stands about 35 meters (115 feet) high and is shaped like a giant finger, which gives it its name. It is composed of limestone and is part of the ancient Etjo Sandstone formation, which was laid down around 15 to 30 million years ago.
Vingerklip is situated in an area known for its striking geological features and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including the nearby Ugab Terraces, another significant geological formation in the region. Visitors can explore the area through hiking trails that provide up-close views of the formation and offer opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the semi-arid savannah environment, home to various wildlife species such as giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.
The rock formation is a popular tourist destination, particularly for photographers, geologists, and nature enthusiasts, as it is an iconic symbol of Namibia's unique natural beauty.
