Clydesdale is situated in the heart of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, and is nestled in the valley of the Lions River; surrounded by natural wetlands and dense forestation. It is the perfect location for those of you wanting a lazy day of meandering, or something more adventurous - we have it all on our doorstep. However you choose to spend your day, we guarantee luxurious accommodation of the highest standard.

Leaving the city two years ago, for an adventure in the Midlands, resulted in what we termed, The Gypsy Years. Arriving at the farm, Weltevreden, we were in awe of the beauty of the Lions River cascading over the wier, which fronted the property. The majestic oak trees provided shade for what we imagined, could one day become home, to some rather large, but friendly horses. But that was all we were in awe of, and spent many a weekend in a caravan, with two muddy dogs, while our little house was made liveable. Hence, the Gypsy Years! We were wrong about it being too many years though, as The Lodge, with its four luxurious rooms soon took shape. The Trough, in keeping with our Horse theme, and being a watering hole, followed soon after. The Trough offers a variety of beverages, comfortable arm chairs and stunning views. Clydesdale on Lions River, is indeed our dreams into reality. 

Rooms
We have four deluxe rooms all with designed bathrooms.

Room 1 is a deluxe double room with a queen size bed and a designer bathroom complete with raised spa bath and large shower.

Room 2  is a deluxe double room with a queen size bed and a designer bathroom complete with a raised spa bath and large shower.

Room 3 is a deluxe double room with a Kingsize bed with and a designer bathroom complete with a large shower.

Room 4 is a deluxe family room with two Queen size beds and a designer bathroom complete with a large Shower.

The Trough (On site lounge and bar)
We have a cozy, honesty bar and lounge complete with fireplace, pool table and full DSTV with 65" HD TV for the sports lovers. Large wine selection from 1993 to the latest Abingdon Vintages.

Clydesdale is close to all boarding schools in the Midlands area. Stay in beautiful, tranquil surroundings before attending the big match or awards ceremony . Book two stays in advance and get the third one half price.

The Midlands is the perfect destination for all foodies out there, whether you enjoy a hearty meal, wood-oven pizza, or fine dining, carefully paired with some of the best wines. Clydesdale is within walking distance from Abingdon Estate Wines, which is a must-visit when in the Midlands. Award winning Wine Maker and Chef, Ian and Jane Smorthwaite, will provide you with a truly gastronomic experience. Simply to sit in the midst of the vineyards, sampling what has been years of intensive, passionate farming, is food for the soul. There are a staggering variety of restaurants, award winning coffee shops, as well as local breweries to keep you meandering! If it is old world charm you are looking for, the Midlands has some of the best country hotels, where a fire place and afternoon cream teas, are the order of the day.

For those of you wishing to visit the Nelson Mandela Capture Site and Museum, it is situated 5kms from Clydesdale. For shady picnic spots and a dip in the dam, we can recommend Midmar Dam. The indigenous Karkloof Forest is home to the Karkloof Canopy Tour, which offers ten zip-lines including twelve platforms. The longest slide is 200 Metres!
