Whale Huys is a cozy Cape Dutch villa located directly on the whale coast in De Kelders. The open plan living area and each of the 4 en-suite bedrooms have unobstructed ocean views on at least two sides. The open kitchen with cooking island is equipped with all modern appliances. There is an addtional wet-bar on the ground floor near the infinity pool and adjacent to the outdoor braai area. Just a few steps down from the pool area, and you have direct access to the oceanside walking trail that connects to the Walkerbay Nature Conservancy -- an unspoilt coastal national park where you can walk for kilometres on end along the coast.
Wake to the sound of the waves against the rocks, or the sound of whales during whale season. Each bedroom has its own balcony and bathroom. On warm days you can dip into the infinty pool and on-cooler evenings you can gather around the gas fireplace or the outdoor open braai. Try some local wines, which are among the best in South Africa.
Whale Huys combines the coziness of traditional thatched roof architecture with the luxury of a modern beach villa including conveniences like DSTV and wireless intenet. Daily maid services and a personal chef are available at an extra charge.
De Kelders is a quiet, safe community located approximately 1 3/4 hours from Cape Town International Airport. The quet fishing town of Gansbaai is just 5 minutes away and has supermarkets, banks, a gym, and several cafes. Stanford, renowned for its restaurants is 10 minutes by car. For a larger variety of shops Hermanus is just 25 minutes away.
The area is rich in culture and things to do. Elim, a world heritage village, is 30 minutes away. Active adventures abound, including wilderness and beachside horseback riding (5 minutes away). South Africa's shark cage diving capital, Kleinbaai, is just 10 minutes away. A variety of wine estates in the area offer some of the best wines of South Africa including the Hemel en Aarde valley,the Stanford Valley, and Lomond valley wines.
The main entrance to Whale Huys is on this floor. The living/dining room space is open plan. The central atrium area has 7 metre ceilings with exposed wooden beams and thatch making it feel both roomy and cozy. There are different seating areas, including around the gas fireplace or facing out. from the entire area one overlooks the ocean. Glass doors over the length of the house and side windows and sliding glass doors provide views of the ocean from three sides. The main balcony extends the width of the house.
There is a modern kitchen with a working island featuring a ceramic stove-top a full-size oven and plenty of storage space. Additionally there is a microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine, espresso/cappuccino machine, a vertical double refrigerator with ice and water on tap. There is also a double sink and a separate tap for filtered water. The kitchen is further well equipped with kitchen utensils, Next to the kitchen there is a small office area with a laptop for doing emails or web surfing.
Also on this floor is one of the main bedrooms with built in cupboards and ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and separate toilet. This bedroom also has a private balcony.
There is also a guest toilet on this level.
The ground floor features a fully equipped wet bar with full-size refrigerator, and an outdoor braai just outside. There is a large indoor seating area across the length of the house that can be used for dining when having a braai. This is the level where the infinity pool is located. Additionally there is an outdoor seating area, an outdoor shower and a laundry room.
There are three bedrooms located on this floor each with its own bathroom and balcony. There are two bedrooms to the left of the stairs, while a wooden walking bridge across the atrium area connects to the third bedroom. Two of the bathrooms have showers and one a large bath. Unique is that all three bedrooms have ocean views from two directions.
