Are you looking for a private venue for a group booking. Tugela River Lodge provides an affordable holiday venue catering for a group of up to 18 on a beautiful game farm in the Central Drakensberg.
There needs to be a
minimum of 5 adults to book out the venue. When you book it, the entire place becomes yours exclusively.
All accommodation is in cottages on the banks of the Tugela River. These stone and thatch cottages nestle at the footholds of the majestic Spioenkop Mountain where the famous battle of Spioenkop took place. Next door is Spioenkop Nature Reserve with its beautiful dam and game. Many of our guests go horse-riding among the game (including rhino's) and rave about an unforgettable experience.
To complete the African experience, Tugela River Lodge has no electricity. Ovens, hobs and deepfreezes are all gas and lighting is powered by solar panels. A donkey boiler ensures 24-hour hot water.
Tugela River Lodge is a very tranquil spot that will appeal to nature lovers. The rippling river below provides the only accompaniment to the sound of the many birds.

A canoe and 5 tubes are provided free of charge for our guests to use. Animal paths through the game farm provide hiking trails for the energetic. You can test out you 4x4 by taking it round the 4x4 route used to put out salt licks for game and cattle.
Each cottage has a fireplace, shower and loo and accommodation for 4. There are 2 beds downstairs and 2 beds upstairs.
The central entertainment area has an eating area, shower/loo, lounge area with fireplace and additional accommodation for 6. This consists of 1 enclosed double room and 2 mezzanine levels. Both mezzanine levels have 2 single beds. These are open plan.
Staff are on hand to assist you. A domestic will make beds and wash all you dishes. She arrives at 8am and will depart at 4pm.
What to bring: Towels, sunscreen, fishing rods (fly and bass) , bicycles, puncture repair kits, portable radio's/CD, board games, torches, food and drinks.
Tugela River Lodge is a bush experience. Forget about the bright city lights. The only mind boggling lights that you will see are the brilliantly lit stars. One guest even insisted on sleeping outside on the deck as he had never seen stars like ours!
