Germiston

Germiston, in the East Rand of Johannesburg has roughly 70% of the Western World's gold passing through their gold refineries.

Germiston was put on the map during the early days of the historical Gold Rush. This attracted commerce and an increase in population.

Wildly enough, there are rather a few notable people that have had their beginnings in Germiston. This includes Andre Watson who was a Rugby World Cup Final referee, Dr Sydney Brenner, winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine; and of course the fantastic Ernie Els.

On the stranger side of things, there is also the house in which Daisy Louisa De Melker lived and murdered her husbands located in Germiston.

Although Germiston is largely an industrial area with many factories, refineries and mines; it is minutes away from large shopping malls with great entertainment facilities. Fantastic eating is to be had in any one of the many prestigious restaurants. Germiston is an area in which one can enjoy historical experiences recreation and many sporting facilities.
