De Mond Nature Reserve

The De Mond Nature Reserve is situated in the Western Cape, South Africa. It lies at the mouth of the Heuningnes River between Arniston and Stuisbaai. It was proclaimed a nature reserve in 1986. The dunes here are rich in vegetation ranging from the dune milkwood forests to the salmarshes. The reserve offers picnic sites for the family to relax and enjoy some quiet time out in nature. This is a lovely way to spend your day. Fishing is allowed at the reserve and there is also a 7km trail which leads through the vegetation, dune forest and along the coast to the saltmarshes at the rover mouth. You might get to see some of the smaller animals at the reserve such as the grey duiker and the steenbok along the way. This reserve is also well known for the variety of bird species, from common to very rare. It is a birdwatchers paradise.
The reserve doesn't offer overnight accommodation but there is accommodation in the nearby town of Arniston.
