Summer Place B&B is a very comfortable place to stay, at Agulhas, the most
Southerly Point of Africa. It has 3 well-appointed bedrooms en-suite, one with a
beautiful view of the sea. The sitting room and dining area also have views of
the sea and there is a large patio/braai (barbeque) area. Continental breakfast
is served in a sunny dining room.
It is within walking distance of the famous lighthouse (the second-oldest in
South Africa), the Agulhas National Park, shops and restaurants. Nearby are the
tidal pools and historical fish traps.
The little village of Suiderstrand (5 kms west from the demarcated spot of the
southernmost point), in the National Park, is well-known for coastal walks and
hiking--a nature-lover's paradise with pristine beaches and a unique marine
lagoon.
Agulhas is 5kms from Struisbaai which has the longest white beach in South
Africa and the prettiest little harbour. Whales arrive during the winter to
breed. Fishing from boats or along the shore is very popular.
The seawater is warm (Indian Ocean) and fabulous for swimming and board/kite
surfing. The area is rich in birdlife (both land and coastal) and supports a
Fynbos/Sandveld biome. The area is also historically famous for the most
shipwrecks around the South African coast. Look forward to a relaxing stay!
