GRASKOP HOTEL
Hotel Accommodation
in Graskop, Escarpment,
Mpumalanga, South Africa
Situated in the malaria free mountain village of
Graskop, The Graskop Hotel is stylishly furnished and decorated with unusual African artefacts, as well as being home to an extensive collection of contemporary South African art.
Once described as a "bog ordinary travelling salesman's joint", the Graskop Hotel has been lovingly renovated and re-decorated to become an Art Gallery you can sleep in! First time visitors are usually shocked to find this unique atmosphere within the walls of a "70's style" façade, although the giant cactus sculpture made from invader alien plants, at the front entrance, gives a taste of things to follow.
The hotel is perfectly situated on the well known
Panorama Route to the Blyde Canyon, being only 7 km's from God's Window, and 55 km's to the
Kruger National Park. It is a 4 hour drive from Johannesburg and a 1 hour drive to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
The hotel has 34 en-suite bedrooms. Each of the 19 rooms in the main building has been decorated by a different contemporary South African Artist. The 15 garden suites each have patios overlooking peaceful gardens, which also have unconventional art pieces around each corner. All rooms have down duvets, tea and coffee facilities, and televisions with SABC and e-TV. The bedrooms are an even mix of double and twin bedded rooms, smoking and non-smoking rooms. Our bar is a smoking area.
On the days when the mist rolls into town, relax in our comfortable lounges with art deco furniture, next to homely log fires. For hot summer days we have a large swimming pool surrounded by wooden pool loungers.
There is a gallery of contemporary art on the premises, as well as a bar and a restaurant.
The hotel is also part-owned by our two neighbours (in the same block): The legendary Harries Pancakes, which was established in 1986, and attracts crowds from all over the world for meal sized sweet and savoury pancakes. And Delagoa African Arts and Crafts. With a view to contemporary design, Delagoa offers the best of handcrafts available in Southern Africa, as well as a variety of recycled products, and unusual collectable African art and crafts.
