Welcome to Ellis Nest,
Dullstroom dam.
Designed and elegantly furnished by the Ellis family, Ellis Nest is perfectly situated overlooking the Dullstroom Dam and Steenkampsberg Mountain. The quaint Dullstroom village is the fly-fishing Mecca of South Africa, surrounded by the idillic scenery of the Mpumalanga high veld.
Ellis Nest has 3 cosy bedrooms with plush carpeting and heaters. Two bedrooms have double beds and en-suite bathrooms and the other bedroom has 2 single beds and a separate bathroom.
The spacious living area features underfloor heating, a fireplace and indoor barbecue and is ideal for entertaining or relaxing. It is equipped with comfortable couches, an eight seater dining table and a TV and music centre.
Ellis Nest is situated in a security area next to the Dullstroom dam and is within walking distance of the village's numerous restaurants and pubs. However, the kitchen is fully equipped for those who prefer to eat in. Undercover parking is provided for two cars.
Dullstroom one of the highest towns in South Africa and thus ideal as the centre of the local trout industry. Ellis Nest is in the Oak Lane Estate overlooking the Dullstroom Dam. Fishing fees are includes in our rates. You will have free access to well stocked dams in the nature reserve next to our estate. Normal provincial fishing licenses will be needed. The bottom dam is strictly catch and release, while at the top dam two fish can be kept per day. The view of the dam from the stoep.

Some info on Dullstroom
Dutch settlers made Dullstroom their home in the early 1880's. The locals called it the place of "eternal mist" and not without reason. The town is 2100 m above sea level making Dullstroom one of the highest towns in South Africa and thus ideal as the centre of the local trout industry. Dullstroom offers breathtaking scenery, unpolluted air and clear streams.
It offers a multitude of trout farms, cottages, B&B's and guest houses and is an ideal holiday destination or stopover on the way to the
Kruger National Park.
Although it is a very small village it has a lot on offer to the tourist, i.e. art galleries, boutiques, craft and curio shops, stylish restaurants and several quaint pubs. Closeby are bird sanctuaries and even a bird of prey centre where falconry is still practiced.
Owing to the high altitude it is recommended that warm clothes be brought. Dullstroom is known for its "four seasons in one day" and most of the pubs and restaurants feature fireplaces that are used right through the year as and when the weather demands. This makes Dullstroom the ideal romantic getaway where you can enjoy a glass of red wine with a partner in front of a log fire on a misty night.
Dullstroom thus caters not only for the avid fly fisherman, but also for the romantics, adventurers, or anybody that needs some serious unwinding from the pressures of city life.
