Steynsrus

Located on the R76 and R720 road between Kroonstad and Senekal in the Free State province you will find the small town of Steynsrus. The town which lies approximately 50 km from either of these two larger towns was named after the last president of the Orange Free State, Martinus Theunis Steyn. It serves as a service centre for the area and has basic services such as butchers, hardware and general goods stores, furniture and appliance retailers, a panel beating shop and a gas station. Agriculture is the main source of income for the area and many of its residents travel long distances each day to work on the surrounding farms. The farms around Steynsrus grow maize, sunflowers, wheat and other crops, and there are also sheep farms, cattle ranches and stud farms.

The towns most notable architectural feature is the sand stone Dutch Reformed Church which can be found on the corner of Van Reebeck and Haasbroek Streets. The building which dominates the town was built in 1928, 18 years after the town was founded. The town is also known for its beautiful yellow fields, windmills, open roads, open space and fresh air, but there is one other major attraction in the area and that is the 4X4 trail at the Riverside farm.
