Simondium

The small Cape wine lands village of Simondium can be found nestling in a picturesque valley surrounded on three sides by mountains. To the east lie the Klein-Drakensteinberg, to the north the Paarl Mountain and Nature Reserve, and immediately behind the village, its lower slopes dotted with vineyards, the Simonsberg. This area of the Western Cape Province has been settled since the late 17th century when the first of the persecuted Huguenot winegrowers arrived from France and Flanders.

There is plenty happening in this small out-of-the-way village. There are picnic festivals, cheese festivals, jazz festivals and, of course, all of those vineyards to visit. Within very easy reach of the village is the Le Bonheur Crocodile Park as well as a Lion Park, an Ostrich Farm and a Safariland Game Farm, and just over the Berg River lies the Paarl Valley Golf Estate. Simondium, although small, lies in the very heart of the best of the wine lands. Every farm and vineyard here is a household name.
