Donkerhoek

Donkerhoek is a historical suburb in Gauteng. The battle of Diamond Hill or Donkerhoek took place during the Anglo Boer War in 1900.

Attractions:
Donkerhoek offers many hiking opportunities with enjoyable nature trails for the whole family to enjoy. The Sammy Marks Museum is a beautiful Victorian Style home in a country setting where the whole family can appreciate the authentic furnishings and contents which allows you to step back in time for a moment. You can also relax in the beautiful garden for lunch and enjoy game of croquet. The Willem Prinsloo Agricultural Museum consists of 2 farm houses filled with antiques to illustrate the way of life in the 1920's. There are vintage tractors and horse drawn wagons. You can enjoy a picnic or take advantage of the braai facilities. The museum also holds annual festivals which should not be missed and is open daily between 9am and 3pm. While visiting Donkerhoek it would be worth your while to take time to visit the Cullinan Diamond Mine which is most well known for the largest uncut diamond ever found and is still fully operational with underground tours for visitors.

Donkerhoek enjoys a moderate climate with warm to hot summer months with most rainfall as thunderstorms and cool to cold winter months.
