The Heritage Museum

The Heritage Museum is situated in Amlay House in Simon's Town in Cape Town, South Africa. The Heritage Museum was established in Amlay House (built in 1858). The Amlay family were forced to leave the town due to race issues in that time. The museum was created as a reminder of the Muslim culture in the town.

There are many interesting displays at the museum including a variety of Muslim artefacts, photographs which date back as far as the 1800's, cooking utensils and traditional bridal rooms to mention only a few. There is so much to see and many interesting tours. There is a tour around the Noorul Islam Mosque which was where the "people of colour" and Muslims lived before the removals.
Another interesting tour is the Kramat Tour. Tours take place on Wednesday and Thursday mornings only. A donation of R15 per person is asked.
